Quick answer

New 6x4 and 8x4 roll-off trucks asked $231,661 to $313,609 on Custom Truck One Source on October 15, 2026. Used full-size roll-offs built 2016 to 2021 asked $94,950 to $144,500 on Custom Truck One Source and TruckerToTrucker that day. A 2025 Kenworth T880 roll-off sold at auction for $205,000 in September 2026, per Construction Equipment Guide. Docket (updated October 12, 2026) puts a new 20-yard container at about $5,250.

How much does a roll-off truck cost?

New 6x4 and 8x4 roll-off trucks were listed at $231,661 to $313,609 asking price on October 15, 2026, and a lighter 4x2 unit at $197,146. Used full-size roll-offs built 2016 to 2021 asked $94,950 to $144,500 the same day, and a 2025 Kenworth T880 roll-off sold at auction for $205,000 in September 2026.

The spread comes down to four things: the chassis (4x2, 6x4 or 8x4), the hoist rating (30,000 lb to 75,000 lb in current listings), age and miles, and whether containers come with the truck. The sections below show the listings and sale results behind each number, then the payment math.

Of the 24 new units visible in Custom Truck One Source's roll-off inventory on October 15, 2026, 16 carried a price and the rest said "call for quote." The two middle prices of those 16 were $259,250 and $260,945.

What do new roll-off trucks cost by chassis and hoist?

The lowest-priced new 6x4 we found, a 2025 Peterbilt 548 with 69 miles, asked $231,661 on October 15, 2026, and four 6x4 units with a listed 60,000 lb hoist asked $233,537 to $274,290. Stepping up to a 75,000 lb hoist or an 8x4 chassis pushed asking prices to $275,106 to $313,609.

Custom Truck's listing pages say their prices are estimates that exclude freight, delivery, sales tax, titling and registration. Most heavy units show "FET Included"; the 4x2 Mack showed no FET line. Container length matters too: the 60,000 lb Peterbilt 548 is set up for 18 to 22 ft containers and the Kenworth T880 for 16 to 24 ft.

How much does a used roll-off truck cost?

Used full-size roll-offs built 2016 to 2021 asked $94,950 to $144,500 on October 15, 2026, and trucks from 2003 to 2007 asked $27,900 to $70,000. Miles, hoist condition and chassis drive most of the gap.

"Buy Now" prices are posted asking prices on Custom Truck's marketplace, which also shows a make-offer option. Many used listings show "contact for price," and some show a current bid or a placeholder such as $10, so the table includes only units with a real posted price. Smaller units are covered in the FAQ below.

Recent auction results

Roll-offs built 2021 to 2025 sold at auction for $107,375 to $205,000 from July to September 2026, while trucks built 2012 to 2019 sold for anywhere from $6,250 to $87,000 over the same months. These are converted sale prices from Construction Equipment Guide model pages, which show the sale month and price but not miles, hoist or condition.

Is a hooklift truck cheaper than a cable roll-off?

Not consistently. In Custom Truck's October 15, 2026 inventory, the hooklift listing was $28,367 cheaper on a 4x2 Mack MD7, while hooklift listings on 6x4 chassis ran from $2,696 less to $31,067 more than roll-off listings on the same chassis model.

Custom Truck sorts these into separate roll-off and hook-lift categories. Model years differ on three of the five pairs, and the hooklift pages do not show a rating for the HT 500 L TEC, so read this as "similar money," not a fixed premium either way. Custom Truck says cable hoists "can unload at lower angles, making them ideal for heavier loads and job sites with low overhead clearance," and that most hooklift trucks use hydraulics instead of cables to handle containers.

The bigger cost question is your boxes. Cable trucks and hooklifts pick up differently, so your containers have to match the truck. Some fleets buy boxes that work with both: the County of Kauai's 2025 bid asked for 30-yard combination hooklift/cable hoist roll-off containers (Bid Banana listing). The roll-off trucks buying guide walks through the spec choices.

How much does a 20 yard dumpster cost to buy?

A new 20-yard roll-off container averages about $5,250, according to Docket's roll-off dumpster guide (updated October 12, 2026). Its averages run from $3,900 for a 10-yard to $7,500 for a 40-yard, plus $200 to $400 for delivery depending on distance.

Docket's FAQ puts new containers at $3,000 to $7,000 and used at $1,500 to $5,000. Note that its own 40-yard average of $7,500 sits above that $7,000 top end, so the page is not internally consistent. Dumpster Rental Systems gives $3,500 to $6,000 for new units, citing an estimate from Keystone Waste Solutions for the 30-yard figure.

Use these as a starting point only. Neither source builds containers, and Docket does not name its data source. Docket's own older guide (published January 2023, updated October 2025) lists lower figures, such as $4,250 for a 20-yard and $4,920 for a 30-yard. What does it cost to start with one truck and ten containers?

Using today's listings and Docket's container averages, a used truck plus ten containers comes to about $153,200, and a new truck plus the same ten containers about $289,787, before tax, title, delivery and insurance.

Total $153,200 $289,787 Sum of the rows above

The arithmetic: $96,950 + $26,250 + $30,000 = $153,200, and $233,537 + $26,250 + $30,000 = $289,787. Containers are $56,250 of the used build, or about 37%. Buying used boxes at Docket's $1,500 to $5,000 range would lower that line.

This page does not estimate revenue. Rental rates, tipping fees and hauls per week vary by market, so build those numbers from your own quotes and customer contracts.

What is the monthly payment on a roll-off truck?

At 10% down and an estimated 9% APR over 60 months, a $180,000 roll-off works out to about $3,360 a month; at 13% it is about $3,690. The three price points line up with the listings above: $90,000 is close to a 2016 to 2018 used truck, $180,000 to a late-model used truck or a used truck with containers, and $280,000 to a new 75,000 lb unit.

Payments use standard amortization on the price minus 10% down, with monthly compounding at the estimated APR shown, over 48, 60 and 72 months, rounded to the nearest $10, with taxes, fees and insurance excluded.

These are illustrations, not quotes. Ironmark is not a lender and does not set rates. Actual rates and terms depend on the lender, your business, credit, time in business and the truck. For how roll-off loans are structured, see how roll-off truck financing works.

What do lenders look at on a roll-off truck deal?

Beyond credit and time in business, expect questions about the hoist, the chassis, the containers and where the work comes from. A roll-off deal is a truck, a hoist and a fleet of steel boxes, and each piece gets a look.

  • Hoist rating and condition. Make, model, rating (30,000 lb to 75,000 lb in today's new listings) and cable or hooklift. One TruckerToTrucker listing advises checking the PTO provision, hoist plumbing, hoist subframe and pivot points, and the frame rails near the hoist mount.
  • Chassis. Year, miles, engine and GVWR. On Custom Truck pages seen October 15, 2026, the 4x2 Mack MD7 lists a 33,000 lb GVWR, the 6x4 Peterbilt 548 66,000 lb and the 6x4 Mack GR64BR 72,000 lb.
  • Containers. Whether they are part of the deal, how many, what sizes and their condition. Ask whether the lender will put containers on the same contract as the truck or treat them separately.
  • Customer contracts. Contractor, property manager or municipal accounts that show steady hauls.
  • Landfill and transfer access. Where you dump, how far away it is and any account you already hold.

The general list is in what lenders look at.

What should you have ready for a roll-off truck quote?

Have the truck details, the hoist details and your container plan in one place. That lets a lender price the whole deal instead of just the chassis.

  • The listing or buyer's order: year, make, model, VIN, miles, engine, axle setup and price, with FET, freight, tax and title shown separately.
  • Hoist details: make, model, rating, cable or hooklift, and the container length range (for example 18 to 22 ft).
  • Photos of the hoist, subframe, cylinders and cable or hook.
  • Your container list: count, sizes, new or used, condition, and builder quotes for any new boxes.
  • Down payment amount and the term you want.
  • Business basics: time in business, recent bank statements and any customer contracts.
  • Your dump sites: landfill or transfer station names and distance.

Frequently asked questions

Do roll-off truck prices include FET and sales tax?

On Custom Truck's listings, FET yes and sales tax no. Most of Custom Truck's new roll-off listings showed "FET Included" on October 15, 2026, and its listing pages say prices exclude freight, delivery, sales tax, titling and registration. Ask any seller for an out-the-door number before you compare trucks.

Why are some roll-off auction results so low?

Auction records often leave out the details that set value. Construction Equipment Guide's model pages show sale month and price but not miles, hoist or condition, so a $6,250 sale may reflect damage or missing equipment you cannot see in the record.

What do smaller roll-off trucks cost?

Used smaller roll-offs on Hino, Isuzu, International and Ford F-550 chassis asked $57,900 to $64,900 on TruckerToTrucker on October 15, 2026. One example: a 2021 Isuzu NRR with a Switch-N-Go Gen II hoist, a 14 ft drop box and 146,345 miles, asking $59,900.

Buying checklist

Compare listings on equal terms

  • Confirm whether the price includes FET, and get freight, delivery, tax and title as separate lines.
  • Match hoist rating, cable or hooklift, and container length range before comparing prices.
  • Check chassis axle setup and GVWR against the loads you plan to haul.

Check the hoist and subframe

  • Ask for hoist make, model and serial number.
  • Inspect cylinders, hoses, PTO, subframe, pivot points and frame rails near the hoist mount.
  • On cable trucks, look at the cable and sheaves. On hooklifts, look at the hook and arm.

Plan the containers with the truck

  • Make sure your containers fit the truck's pickup style and length range.
  • Get written quotes for new boxes, or inspect used boxes for floor and door condition.
  • Decide whether you want containers on the same financing as the truck.
