Quick answer
Using dealer asking prices seen on MyLittleSalesman on October 19, 2026, used dump truck payments ran from about $680 to $4,170 a month with 10% down, a 9% or 13% estimated APR and 48 to 72 month terms. A 2019 Kenworth T880 tri-axle listed at $139,900 works out to about $2,610 a month at 9% over 60 months. These are illustrations, not quotes.
How much is the monthly payment on a dump truck?
On the used trucks we priced, the payment runs from about $680 to $4,170 a month. A $42,000 used tandem financed for 72 months at a 9% estimated APR works out to about $680, and a $172,900 late-model tri-axle financed for 48 months at 13% works out to about $4,170. Where your truck lands depends on the price, your down payment, the term and the rate a lender offers you.
The tables below use real asking prices from dealer listings we checked on October 19, 2026, so you can find a truck close to the one you are looking at and read across. If your truck is priced differently, the section on doing the math yourself shows how to get your own number with a phone calculator or a spreadsheet.
A note before the numbers: Ironmark is not a lender. We connect buyers and dealers with third-party lenders, and those lenders set rates, terms and approval. Every payment on this page is an illustration, not a quote.
What do used dump trucks cost right now?
Asking prices on the listings we checked ran from $42,000 for a 2006 tandem to $172,900 for a 2024 tri-axle, with a new 2026 tandem at $165,995. Age and mileage drive most of the spread. The two used Mack Granite tandems below are $50,000 apart: the 2015 truck shows 495,433 miles and the 2019 truck shows 116,768.
| Truck | Axles | Miles (as listed) | Asking price | Source | Date seen |

All prices are dealer asking prices, not sold prices. Trucks often sell below asking, and any of these listings may be sold or repriced by the time you read this. Use them as reference points, then price the actual truck you want. For what to inspect on a truck at each price level, see our dump truck buying guide.
How were these payments calculated?
Each example assumes 10% down on the asking price above, an estimated APR of 9% or 13%, and a term of 48, 60 or 72 months, with payments rounded to the nearest $10 and taxes, fees and insurance excluded. These are illustrations, not quotes. Ironmark does not set rates, and your actual rate and term come from the lender that approves the deal.
The two rates are scenarios to show how much the rate moves the payment. They are not a prediction of what you will be offered. Some borrowers will see rates outside this range in either direction.
What is the payment on a used tri-axle dump truck?
For the tri-axles we priced, the illustrated payment runs from about $730 to $4,170 a month. An older tri-axle near $45,000 sits under $1,100 a month on every scenario, while a late-model T880 near $140,000 to $173,000 lands between about $2,270 and $4,170.
| Truck | Amount financed | Estimated APR | 48 months | 60 months | 72 months |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2008 International Paystar 5900 | $40,500 | 9% | $1,010 | $840 | $730 |
| 2008 International Paystar 5900 | $40,500 | 13% | $1,090 | $920 | $810 |
| 2019 Kenworth T880 | $125,910 | 9% | $3,130 | $2,610 | $2,270 |
| 2019 Kenworth T880 | $125,910 | 13% | $3,380 | $2,860 | $2,530 |
| 2024 Kenworth T880 | $155,610 | 9% | $3,870 | $3,230 | $2,800 |
| 2024 Kenworth T880 | $155,610 | 13% | $4,170 | $3,540 | $3,120 |
A tri-axle's extra axle buys legal payload, and on aggregate and asphalt work that payload is what pays the note. Before you compare payments, compare what each truck can haul legally on the roads you run.
What is the payment on a used tandem dump truck?
For the used tandems we priced, the illustrated payment runs from about $680 to $3,140 a month, and the new 2026 tandem runs about $2,690 to $4,010. The 2019 Mack at $129,900 and the new Western Star at $165,995 are $36,095 apart in asking price, which works out to roughly $590 to $870 a month across these scenarios.
| Truck | Amount financed | Estimated APR | 48 months | 60 months | 72 months |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2006 International 7600 | $37,800 | 9% | $940 | $780 | $680 |
| 2006 International 7600 | $37,800 | 13% | $1,010 | $860 | $760 |
| 2015 Mack Granite | $71,910 | 9% | $1,790 | $1,490 | $1,300 |
| 2015 Mack Granite | $71,910 | 13% | $1,930 | $1,640 | $1,440 |
| 2019 Mack Granite 64FR | $116,910 | 9% | $2,910 | $2,430 | $2,110 |
| 2019 Mack Granite 64FR | $116,910 | 13% | $3,140 | $2,660 | $2,350 |
| 2026 Western Star 47X (new) | $149,396 | 9% | $3,720 | $3,100 | $2,690 |
| 2026 Western Star 47X (new) | $149,396 | 13% | $4,010 | $3,400 | $3,000 |
The new truck carries a higher payment, but it also comes with a factory warranty and no repair history. Whether that is worth the difference depends on how many hours you run and how much downtime costs you. Our article on new vs. used equipment walks through that trade.
What is the payment on a single-axle dump truck?
For the two single-axle trucks we priced, the illustrated payment runs from about $910 to $2,840 a month. The gap comes almost entirely from age: the 2016 truck was listed at $56,300 and the 2023 truck at $117,500.
| Truck | Amount financed | Estimated APR | 48 months | 60 months | 72 months |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2016 International 7400 SBA | $50,670 | 9% | $1,260 | $1,050 | $910 |
| 2016 International 7400 SBA | $50,670 | 13% | $1,360 | $1,150 | $1,020 |
| 2023 International HV607 | $105,750 | 9% | $2,630 | $2,200 | $1,910 |
| 2023 International HV607 | $105,750 | 13% | $2,840 | $2,410 | $2,120 |
Single-axle trucks suit landscaping, municipal and light site work where a smaller footprint matters more than payload. Check the GVWR on the listing against your drivers' licensing before you commit: the dealer listing for the 2016 International above shows a 33,000 lb GVWR (seen October 19, 2026), so confirm whether your drivers need a CDL to run it.
How do you calculate a dump truck payment yourself?
Take the amount you will finance, multiply it by the monthly rate, then divide by one minus the "discount factor" for the term. In plain words, the steps are:
- Find the amount financed. Asking price minus your down payment. With 10% down on a $79,900 truck, that is $71,910.
- Find the monthly rate. Divide the APR by 12. At 13%, that is 0.13 / 12 = 0.010833.
- Find the discount factor. Add 1 to the monthly rate, raise it to the power of the number of months, and take 1 divided by that. For 60 months, 1.010833 to the 60th power is about 1.9089, and 1 / 1.9089 is about 0.5239.
- Divide. Payment = amount financed x monthly rate / (1 minus the discount factor). Here, $71,910 x 0.010833 / (1 minus 0.5239) is about $1,636, which rounds to the $1,640 shown in the tandem table.
In a spreadsheet, the PMT function does all four steps. Enter =PMT(0.13/12, 60, -71910) and you get the same answer. Swap in your own rate, term and amount.
Two things this math leaves out. Sales tax, title, registration, documentation fees and insurance all add to the real monthly cost, and some of them may be rolled into the amount financed. And the rate you plug in is a guess until a lender gives you one, so run it at two or three rates, not one.
What changes the payment besides the price?
Three levers matter most: the down payment, the term and the rate. Each one moves the payment by a predictable amount, and you can see all three in the tables above.
- Term. On the 2019 Kenworth T880 at 9%, stretching from 48 to 72 months drops the payment from $3,130 to $2,270. You pay more interest in total, and on an older truck the loan can outlast the engine or the next major repair.
- Rate. On the same truck at 60 months, moving from 9% to 13% raises the payment from $2,610 to $2,860.
- Down payment. Every dollar you put down is a dollar you are not paying interest on. The tables assume 10%; more down lowers every number proportionally.
Truck age and mileage also matter, because they affect what a lender is willing to offer on that specific unit. A 2008 truck with over 230,000 miles is a different credit decision from a 2024 truck, even at a similar loan size. For how dump truck purchases fit into broader fleet financing, see construction equipment financing.
What do lenders look at on a dump truck loan?
Lenders weigh the business, the borrower and the truck itself. On the business side, that usually means time in business, revenue and existing debt. On the truck side, it means year, mileage, condition and whether the price makes sense for the market.
Dump trucks add a few specifics. A lender may ask what you haul and for whom, since steady hauling contracts or a backlog of site work help show the payment is covered. Whether you are buying from a dealer, at auction or from a private seller can also change what paperwork is needed. Each lender sets its own criteria; our article on what lenders look at covers the general picture, and the used equipment buying checklist covers the inspection side.
What should you have ready for a dump truck quote?
Having these ready helps a lender respond with a specific offer rather than a range:
- The listing or dealer quote for the exact truck: year, make, model, VIN, miles, axle configuration and body length
- The seller's name and whether it is a dealer, auction or private sale
- How much you plan to put down, and whether you have a trade-in
- What you haul (aggregate, asphalt, demolition debris, site fill) and any current hauling contracts
- Years in business and recent business bank statements
- A list of the trucks and equipment you already finance, with monthly payments
